Behind the Book
Growing up, jumping rope was a big pastime in my neighborhood. We'd gather, usually, in someone's driveway, two people twirling a long rope while we all chanted a favorite long-memorized rhyme. A rather impressive line formed, each of us waiting to jump in and have our turn. We usually jumped until dusk, until our mothers called us in.
I particularly love jump rope rhymes and was always making up new ones. When I began to write the rhymes for this book, I called upon many beloved memories of those days on Falcon Drive. These poems came easier than any other collection, each one a delight to write.
My sincere hope is that I've done my small part in keeping rope-rhymes chantingly alive for future generations, in and among our technology age.
